The high-stakes political thriller Hostage has officially landed on Netflix. Starring and executive produced by Suranne Jones, the series follows a tense state visit thrown into chaos when the French president’s trip to the UK is disrupted by a kidnapping and blackmail plot.
Written by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies and Treason), Hostage delivers gripping drama with a standout performance from Jones at its core. It also stars familiar faces from the TV worlds of Bridgerton and Braveheart.

Suranne Jones as Abigail Dalton
Who is Abigail Dalton? Dalton is the British Prime Minister. “They have weaponized my family,” Jones’ character says in a teaser clip. “I will not be threatened. I will not negotiate. My loyalties are to this country. I will not allow it to be held to ransom.”
On the role, Jones added to Tudum: “I’m thrilled to be on Netflix, in something I’m really proud of. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. We’d talked about projects previously, but for me, it was about finding the right thing. Hostage was perfect - me and Matt together, backed up by this brilliant, supportive team. I loved it.”
What else has Suranne Jones been in? Jones rose to fame after appearing on Coronation Street as Karen McDonald. She starred in the ITV soap between 2000 and 2004. Viewers will also recognise her from Doctor Foster and Scott and Bailey.
Julie Delpy as Vivienne Toussaint
Who is Vivienne Toussaint? Vivienne Toussaint is the French President. During her visit to the UK, the British Prime Minister's husband is abducted on French territory and the duo are forced to work together.
What else has Julie Delpy been in? Delpy's previous roles include appearances in the Before trilogy and the Three Colors trilogy.
Corey Mylchreest as Matheo Lewis
Who is Matheo Lewis? Matheo Lewis is the French President's stepson who works for an NGO.
On the role, Mylchreest told Cosmopolitan UK exclusively: “I play Matheo Lewis, who is the French president's stepson and the son of a sort of oligarchical figure in France. Sort of Rupert Murdoch-adjacent guy who controls all the media in France, and who works for an NGO and works to rehouse refugees, and that is in conflict with who the French president has politically become.
“Matheo's storyline gets further interwoven into the main storyline as we move forward through the story. It's gripping. It's thrilling. Lots of plot shocks and twists. It should be fun.”
What else has Corey Mylchreest been in? Bridgerton fans will recognise Mylchreest from Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. He also appears in The Sandman and most recently starred alongside Sofia Carson in Netflix's My Oxford Year.
Lucian Msamati as Kofi Adomako
Who is Kofi Adomako? Kofi Adomako is a member of British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton's team. It's rumoured that Dalton is planning to replace him, as he was hired by her predecessor, however, the French president's aide, Adrienne Pelletier, struggles to understand why, given his expertise.

Ashley Thomas as Dr Alex Anderson
Who is Dr Alex Anderson? Dr Alex Anderson is the husband of the British Prime Minister. The couple have one daughter together, named Sylvie. Anderson's kidnapping sets off a series of events that could unravel a major diplomatic mission.
What else has Ashley Thomas been in? Thomas who goes by the stage name Bashy, is a rapper and actor. He's previously starred in Them, 24: Legacy, Salvation and Top Boy.
James Cosmo as Max
Who is Max? Max is the British Minister's father. Dalton and her daughter Sylvie decide not to share the news of Anderson's abduction with Max, while he recovers in hospital. However, Sylvie later lets this information slip to her grandfather as she worries about her mother's actions.

Who is Adrienne Pelletier? Adrienne is a close confidante of President Toussaint. She finds herself caught in the escalating turmoil, where trust begins to fracture.
